Behind the byline

Hi, I’m Daniel.

Writer.
Investor.
Always reading.

Curiosity starts it.
The research makes it a story.

I’ve written about business and investing for a living since 2013, primarily for The Motley Fool. My beat spans technology, industrials, financials, and consumer goods.

Before that, I served as a U.S. Army noncommissioned officer, 2007–2011. I also own and serve as chief investment officer of Sparks Capital Management and hold an MBA from Colorado State University.

Sparks Strategies LLC is the business behind my writing: the research, editing, and daily discipline that get a finished piece onto an editor’s desk. The byline is also the accountability: the judgment and the finished work remain mine.

Read the source.

Filings, earnings calls, and company releases. Start with the original record.

Find the question.

What changed? What does the price assume? What might the market be missing?

Make it clear.

Company analysis, earnings coverage, and explainers, written with respect for the reader’s time.

Deadlines kept. Standards respected.

Same-day earnings coverage, considered analysis, and explainers all need a dependable editorial rhythm. I write to each publication’s house standards, carry feedback into the next draft, and make the editor’s handoff as clean as the reader’s experience.
